Paper Scraps Pie Charts

This week on MIM, Melissa has a great video HERE to show us how to use up more of those scraps we hoarding ~ Her card is beautiful and this would be a great way to use up and slim down that pile of scraps ;-)  I don't own the tee pee die set she used, so I started cutting out strips ...well, next time I will cut larger strips cause it took me forever to tape these together.  Anywho, I do like the way my card turned out and will try this technique again..

Watercolor Splats

Back to MIM...
I've had this card in my head  since I saw the watercolor splats on Nicole's video.  They reminded me of water bubbles in the sea :o)
Love how this fun Anniversary card came out~it's going to a very dear fun couple!

This month's challenge from Nicole's Blog HERE is to look at embroidered patterns in a whole new light!  Look through your clothes, Pinterest, home decor catalogs or even the inspiration provided below.  Using the colors and design of the embroidery, build your own stamped version using your favorite floral stamps or other images.  No stitching required!

Make It Monday Challenge
Watercolor Splats

I don't really use a lot of primary or darker colors on my cards except for maybe 'accents'. I generally prefer pastels. So to try the MIM challenge again, I went inside my comfort zone, but...
I couldn't easily put my hands on dye inks in lighter colors, so I went with some pigment inks (although in this picture these colors are much deeper than in real life).
Now I know why I should have searched a little more for those dye inks.  The water splats do not show up as well.  However, I can see them and you will too if you look closely ;-)
I liked the way  it turned out, plus I think it will pass as a masculine B-Day card that's going into the mail tonight.

Watercolor Splats

Check out Nicole's video ~ her MIM challenge is to "water splat" a design on an inked up panel.  This technique is not new to me, but I haven't created cards using it in a while,  so I jumped into the pool ... so to speak ;-)

I inked up a couple of sponges with Kaleidacolor Rainbow Dye Ink Pad, swiped across the white cardstock, then dropped water from a paint brush in a (somewhat) design fashion.  The butterfly is die cut out of lavender cardstock and I used a Script stamp to make my pattern...thinking after the fact, I could have used patterned paper :-o    I twisted some gold twine under my butterfly before it was adhered with double sided tape.  I left the sentiment off because this will be one of those "whatever-it-needs-to-be" cards.

Heat Embossing Tips for Die Cuts and Two Step Stamps

Erin Lincoln has a great technique here, it makes heat embossing on die cuts really easy...I can't tell you how many burned fingers this tip will save in my craft room!

Hope you had a Blessed Easter!

I attended the Sunrise Service and it was a glorious morning here.

Almost didn't make it this week's MIM, haven't been feeling quite up to par since Tuesday, but I've not missed very many of these challenges, so I just had to post this card.

I should be getting some sleep (hopefully), been up since 5 AM :o)

No Sew Quilted Card video by Dawn McVey

I will have to retake this photo in the daylight because it really is pretty in real life, I also took pic before adding the googlie eyes which add a touch of whimsy to this bunny sticker.
This card is my last entry in this oh-so-fun-challenge but it will definitely not be my last quilted card...
okay, you have been warned    ;-)

No Sew Quilts
Dawn McVey's wonderful video can be seen HERE

I am loving this fun technique for making homey quilts.
Wishing I had the creative patience to make a real one like my Mom and Mother-In-Law have done many  years ago.
I would love to whip up one of these as a housewarming gift, but afraid my niece is going to have to settle for a "quilt card"    ;-)

Make It Monday - No Sew Quilted Cards

Dawn has shown us how to make a quilted card without a sewing machine :-)

There were so many beautiful quilts in my family and my husband's family which were all hand sewn many years ago. I have always loved the creativity and workmanship of these amazing women who made these timeless pieces without patterns and just their imaginations.

I have been sending cards weekly to my friend in MA who is going through intensive chemo treatments.  She unfortunately is back in the hospital and I'm mailing this card to her this week...she was a quilter a few years back and I hope this helps to cheer her up a bit.

Stamping with Watercolor Mediums

See Heather's video HERE on creating a card using watercolors.
I love the "Impressionist Artist" look this technique mimics on a (very) small scaleI used watercolor crayons by Stampin' Up to create this birthday card.  I really enjoy the effect of watercolor mediums and there is a lot of inspiration on Nicole's Blog to get you going.  :-)
